By BRIAN KERR | MALCOLM LOPEZ Arizona State University travel agent Lisa Adams knows a thing or two about hotels.
She also knows how to make sure you have the best deals on everything.
Adams is the director of sales for the Arizona Travel Association, a group of travel agents.
She has been traveling for 20 years and said the industry is “in transition.”
“We are seeing a lot of changes in the travel industry,” Adams said.
“The people are doing what they want to do and it’s just not what’s in front of them.”
Adams said that the Arizona tourism industry has grown exponentially in the past decade.
The Arizona Tourism Association reports that more than 6.5 million people have visited Arizona since 2000.
But Arizona is still a rural state, and the tourism industry is still primarily located in the Southwest.
Adams said a big reason for this is that people in Arizona tend to travel to different parts of the state.
“When you go to Phoenix, Phoenix, you travel to Tucson and Tucson to Phoenix,” Adams explained.
“They’re the two largest cities in the state.”
The Arizona Tourism Authority, the tourism agency, says it is working to diversify the industry and create more opportunities for people to travel and make a living in the tourism sector.
Adams said the tourism economy has grown by $7 billion since 2000, and is expected to grow by $12 billion by 2020.
“It’s a tremendous opportunity for Arizona and the region,” Adams told The Arizona Republic.
The state is working on ways to increase the number of hotel rooms and other amenities for tourists and to increase business, Adams said, adding that there is no single solution to this problem. “
I think there’s a lot to be done, but we’re doing everything we can to bring the industry back.”
The state is working on ways to increase the number of hotel rooms and other amenities for tourists and to increase business, Adams said, adding that there is no single solution to this problem.
“What we can do is focus on creating more jobs, better job opportunities and make the region more competitive.”
The tourism industry, Adams told the Republic, is working toward creating more than 300,000 new jobs through the tourism and tourism services industries.
“It’s all about creating a better life for people,” Adams added.
“That’s why I think we need to continue to be innovative and continue to invest in our economy.”
The Phoenix Convention and Visitors Bureau is also working to increase tourism.
“One of the things we’re trying to do is develop new ways to connect people and businesses in Arizona,” said the bureau’s marketing director, Julie Buehler.
“So that’s part of what we’re focusing on right now, trying to connect Arizona with the people, the businesses, and our visitors.”
The bureau is currently looking to hire a director to help guide the tourism business, Buehl said.
She said that her office has been working with the Arizona Tourism Department to develop a plan to attract more businesses to the region.
“We have a lot more work to do to attract the right people and to connect the people in the best way,” Buehner said.
