Minnesota Wild general manager Chuck Fletcher says he’s “very, much more than a little” interested in signing defenseman Jason Ponnuru from the Los Angeles Kings.

Fletcher made that remark Wednesday in a conference call with reporters.

“We’ve got a lot of interest,” Fletcher said.

“There’s a lot that we’d like to get a feel for, and I don’t want to speak for anybody else, but I’ve been talking to a lot more than the Kings.”

Ponnuru was traded to the Kings on Wednesday night, the day before he was expected to become a restricted free agent.

His deal will pay him a $2.6 million cap hit for the rest of the season.

He will make $2 million per season next year, though Fletcher said he wants to work out a long-term contract with the Wild.

The 29-year-old Ponnuro played for the Kings for four seasons, appearing in just 18 games with two assists in 2016-17.

He also played for Columbus of the American Hockey League last season.
